About Us
The Aurora School is a
warm, strong, and positive alternative for out-of-district placements of
students with multiple disabilities ages 3-7. Future plans include raising
the age level of our students.
At Aurora we provide all the necessary IEP demands including five days of speech, OT, PT,
behavioral programs (ABA if indicated) offering a strong
academic program based on the NJCCCS. The school psychiatrist is available
for consultation upon request. Our program runs a full day for eleven
months with traditional components as mandated, Physical Education, art, music, lunch,
and more.
We have a nurse on staff. Our adult to student ratio for the youngest
classes averages two to one. Students are welcomed with their own one to
one when
determined necessary by their IEPs.
Our program is based on students
understanding and owning their strengths, working on the areas called "needs"
(not weaknesses). When students successfully master a needed skill,
they have a new strength to use in their life. Small gains promote big
successes.
Inclusion is a strong concern for all staff members.
Various activities and program overlaps will occur with siblings and local area
typical
students.
Keep your students in your inclusion classes if you can; but when this is not
an option come to see us at the Aurora School to try our new and exciting program.
Visitations are welcome by appointment.
